A Traditional Approach to Fundamental Value
Over the years, the Coleford managers have taken a focused, value-oriented approach to investing. Our method is based on a solid foundation of research and disciplined decision-making.
Bottom-Up Investment Approach
We utilize a bottom-up investment approach focusing on mid to large capitalization North American companies. Computer screening is routinely used in the preliminary stages of the securities selection process, using fundamental criteria of investment value to assess safety, profitability and growth.
The key elements we focus upon are financial strength, management capability, and return on shareholders’ equity. Our greater than normal focus on the balance sheet strength is a means of controlling risk, given our clients’ goals of capital preservation and building long-term capital gains.
Coleford’s conservative focus on asset preservation after inflation is very appropriate for high net worth families. This focus has generated positive returns in years when markets have had negative returns (1992 and 1994). The use of large capitalization growth and value stocks with strong balance sheets results in reduced equity volatility reduced trading and long-term capital gains deferral.
